kubik inc. represented by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 won Gold for the Best Museum Environment category at the Event Marketer 2015 Experience Design Awards.

The EDAs recognize the best event and branded environments among this industry’s top experience designers and innovators, and the award-winning projects reflect how the world’s best creative studios are reinventing experience design across the industry. Winners competed across 16 categories and were selected by a panel of brand-side judges.

In 2009, the government of Canada announced that the museum would be a nationally designated museum and would now become the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. kubik’ task was to re-design the Pier 21 story to modernize the exhibits and convey the historical importance of the site to the building of our nation. Simultaneously, we had to create a new design narrative for the Canadian Immigration Story that encapsulated the crucial themes and experiences of immigration throughout our Canada’s history and future.

The Pier 21 Gallery has a number of large “WOW” moments. There is an immersive recreation of an ocean vessel’s dining room and cabin that truly help transport the visitor into the experience of crossing the ocean to Canada. In addition there is a scaled recreation of a Colonist Train Car that visitors enter, sit in and relive being transported across Canada while listening to Oral Histories of real immigrant stories.
