Camper Pavilion | Volvo Ocean RaceInternationalEvents & Special Projects
Walking on water
Founded in 1877, Camper is one of the world’s leading footwear designers and recent collaborator with Emirates Team New Zealand in the Volvo Ocean Race. For the world’s premier offshore racing event, a unique Camper pavilion was designed by Shigeru Ban and constructed out of paper tubes, erected in the race villages at several stopovers throughout the race.
A harbour in a tempest
The round pavilion, with a diameter of 20 metres, was engineered to be installed and dismantled in a short amount of time and built to withstand the possibility of severe weather conditions in harbours such as Sanya, China; Miami, USA; and Lorient, France. The Camper pavilion is exemplary of the organization’s daring design approach, recognizing the intrinsic value in natural materials and excellent craftsmanship.
Camper had so many new experiences, moments where we really did not know what to expect. But with you guys, we always felt secure and protected. What a great group at kubik!
