Displaying a Legacy

This new state-of-the-art facility celebrates the heritage, attitude and spirit of the Colorado Buffaloes and includes a men’s and women’s Olympic sports locker room, sports performance areas, meeting rooms, weight room, and an expanded Academic Center. The Athletic Complex also contains the Champion’s Center, which is now the home of CU football, the University’s athletics administration, and many Olympic sports coaches. It houses a team locker room and lounge, team dining facilities, and a rooftop terrace for game-day and special events. The Athletic Complex reflects an integrated facility that covers the numerous areas of athletics.

kubik maltbie’s experience in delivering close-coordination branded experience spaces played a significant part in securing and successfully accomplishing the project. Exhibits cover hallways, meeting and locker rooms, a training room, and public spaces in two buildings on seven levels of the expansive complex. This environment helps student athletes achieve exceptional performance while centralizing CU’s athletic programs, providing efficient day to day operations.

New Building and Interior Fit-Out

kubik maltbie was selected for the redesign and additions to the Athletic Facility. Since this scope was roughly divided into 70% fabrication and 30% graphics, utilizing both a project manager and a graphics production manager to focus on the separate disciplines greatly improved the final product. Careful coordination with the general contractor and the CU Athletic department ensured a safe environment for student athletes and accurate filed dimensioning for fit & finish of exhibit work in an ever-evolving construction project. Collaboration with the CU Athletic Department archivists developed provisions for ideal handling and mounting of displays. The overall scope of work included coordination with multiple internal and external team members, fabrication, graphics design, graphics production and installation, audio visual hardware integration, and artifact mounting.
