TORONTO, ONTARIO, July 16, 2018 – The Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD) recognized two kubik projects at the 2018 SEGD Global Design Awards during the SEGD Conference Experience Minneapolis earlier this year.

kubik was included with a collaborative group of designers, consultants, and fabricators honoured with the two Merit Awards for the projects, Flight Gallery Discovery Centre and Fashion for Good Launchpad Exhibition, produced out of kubik’s Toronto and Amsterdam offices respectively.

The 37 winning projects were recognized for effective use of design to communicate values, tell stories, and create a strong sense of place. “The submitted projects are the best of the best from around the world,” said Christina Lyons, chairperson of the Graduate Exhibition & Experience Design program at the Fashion Institute of Technology (New York) and Jury Chair for the 2018 SEGD Global Design Awards.

kubik provided fabrication expertise to both projects. The 16,000 square foot Flight Gallery Discovery Centre features a fleet of suspended paper airplanes and the deconstructed Piper Cub aircraft, revealing the engine, structure, and materials within, while keeping the full cockpit and engine assembly intact for visitors to climb inside. Based in Amsterdam, the temporary Fashion for Good Launchpad Exhibition was brought to life in just eight weeks, from concept to installation, in advance of the final exhibition to come in 2018.

“We are very pleased to celebrate recognition from SEGD,” said Sam Kohn, kubik President and CEO “these Merit Awards are representative of the trust our partners place in us to work collaboratively, producing exceptionally executed projects whether they are temporary or permanent installations.”
