The Newseum is a 250,000 square-foot museum that is home to the foremost collection of news artifacts in the world. kubik, an internationally renowned exhibits and environments firm, was at the forefront of the planning, production, graphic treatment and on-site installation for the Newseum’s 15 theaters, 14 major galleries, 130 interactive stations and two cutting-edge broadcast studios.
In recognition of kubik‘s tremendous contributions to the success of the Newseum, from exploring new and innovative solutions, to bringing designs and the exhibits to life, Event Design Magazine has awarded kubik the Gold, the industry’s highest honour, for Best Museum Environment.
It’s always an honour to win an award, but we’re especially thrilled to be recognized by Event Design Magazine for our efforts with the Newseum, said Sam Kohn, President and CEO, kubik Inc. It’s especially gratifying to win this award as the Newseum marked a new, rewarding and successful approach to museum environments. It was the first time exhibition designers and producers were tied right into the design and construction of the building and exhibits and galleries were integrated right into the actual physical infrastructure. Not only is this a wonderful new way to build a cultural centre, we believe it’s the way of the future.
For the Newseum, kubik fabricated and installed extremely detailed case work, custom graphics for over 4,000 panels, and 130 interactive multimedia installations. Many of the gallery treatments required kubik to develop new approaches to installation and innovative new ways to utilize materials. In all, kubik shipped over 100 tractor trailers of materials to the Newseum
At kubik, we honestly believe there are no limits to what can be achieved with exhibits, galleries and cultural centres, said Kohn. To be awarded the Gold for our work on the Newseum confirms not only our abilities, but also our philosophy: if you can imagine it, we can build it.
