The Disney Family Museum is a celebration of Walt Disney’s life and his work. Located at the historic Presidio in San Francisco overlooking San Francisco Bay; the former US Army barracks underwent an extensive renovation which included a 16,000 square-foot addition. It tells the story of the genius of Disney, a poor farm boy who became a risk-taking innovator and one of the major cultural influences of the past century.
maltbie, a kubik company’s involvement with the project spanned three years and included preconstruction consultation, the development of extensive prototypes and mockups as well as comprehensive fabrication and installation services. The museum; comprised of nearly 36,000 square-feet contained eleven galleries that included 110 custom showcases and 1600 artifacts; both of which were included in maltbie‘s scope of work. Designed by the Rockwell Group, the exhibit’s incorporated sophisticated multimedia productions and nearly 1200 graphic labels and images.
