Event sponsorship roadshow of retail
One of the world’s leading footwear designers, Camper, sponsored the Emirates Team New Zealand for the world’s premier offshore racing event, the Volvo Ocean Race. The travelling pavilion that followed the ocean racers around the world was designed by Japense architect Shigeru Ban, in his signature innovative approach utilizing paper and cardboard tubing as a construction materials. The daring design required unique materials and inventive craftsmanship.
Created from cardboard columns of varying width, the circular pavilion was the stand-out structure in the race village, contrasted against the surrounding square tented and metal structures. The daring design required unique materials and inventive craftsmanship.
A main structure made from cardboard tubes of different diameters that nest one within another, allowed the six-meter-high pavilion to compactly travel to different locations.
It required a singular inventive approach, developed specifically for this unique custom environment, to erecting and dismantle the custom building at each location.
Activated in multiple locations including Sanya, China; Miami, USA; and Lorient, France — at each stopover the pavilion featured a wide range of activities for all ages including an interactive kiosk, jazz sessions, gin and tonic master classes as well as a Camper shop selling a wide range of Camper Emirates Team New Zealand merchandise, and of course, Camper’s iconic shoes.
