On the main floor of the museum, visitors find the Bug Gallery, celebrating the beauty, diversity and importance of insects, spiders and other live invertebrates from Alberta and around the world in an engaging, fun and safe environment. The humidity controlled space is temperature controlled for the hundreds of live invertebrates housed in the gallery.
The exhibit, themed around four landscapes: tropical forest, coral reef, arid land and Alberta, required years of planning. kubik built and installed the hive-shaped information center dedicated to paper wasps and housing an enclosed buzzing nest. The bug gallery required special permits and had to undergo several government agency inspections, examining screen sizes, ventilation and floor drains.
