Creating smart sustainable spaces that capture the future of built environments.
Project Overview.
Kubik partnered with Hyperquake and a multidisciplinary agency team—including Fivestone Studios, Electrosonic, NanoLumens, and others—to bring the new OpenBlue Innovation Center to life at Johnson Controls’ headquarters in Glendale, Wisconsin. This immersive space tells the OpenBlue story with purpose: to demonstrate how connected technologies, AI, and sustainable design come together to shape the future of built environments.
Experience & Design Contribution.
Working under Hyperquake’s strategic lead, Kubik developed and fabricated immersive branded environments that anchored powerful storytelling throughout the Center. Key features included:
- Interactive Installations
We built striking physical infrastructure—pod structures, exhibit walls, and mounting systems—for breakthrough interactive tech like the Open Globe and Vision Book. - Visual Branding Presence
From the Welcome Wall to the five experiential portals, every corridor and threshold reflected OpenBlue’s brand identity through color, typography, and materials. - AV & Tech Integration
Our teams coordinated tightly with AV integrators and contractors to support seamless deployment of large-format LED screens, touch tables, VR gear, and projection systems. - Artifact Handling & PPE
In zones featuring hardware demos and sensitive tech, we developed safe display protocols—balancing aesthetics with critical safety and security standards.
Kubik’s core role spanned fabrication and graphics—about 70% construction-focused, 30% visual content. Our project and production managers ensured real-time coordination with Hyperquake, Electrosonic, the fabrication vendors, and Johnson Controls’ facilities teams.
Immersive Journey.
Visitors begin in a dramatic portal sequence that sets the stage. Beyond that:
- The Welcome Wall greets guests with personalized messaging.
- The Open Globe—a 3D, interactive globe—immerses users in Johnson Controls’ global impact, spotlighting Innovation Centers, net-zero buildings, and sustainability milestones.
- The Vision Book uses projected pages and RFID to create story moments that respond to touch and motion.
- Modular Pods house VR experiences and a touch-enabled exploration table, giving hands-on depth to OpenBlue’s solutions.
- A Theater Zone wraps up the experience with curated, cinematic storytelling tied to the brand narrative.
